Environments at Work (EAW) was chosen to work with Carbonite, a leader in cloud-based based backup systems, on the relocation of their global headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts from the Back Bay into a new space in Downtown Crossing, one of the city’s up-and-coming tech hubs.
Carbonite’s name, derived from the ever-popular “Star Wars” film series about the adventures of various characters from “a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away,” — and of which the most recent episode became the highest-grossing movie of all time — was the key inspiration for the design concept.
Presented with the unique opportunity to create a new space to support Carbonite’s energetic culture, brand, and act as a tool for recruitment and retention of talent, the EAW team wholeheartedly “got into it” to turn the customer’s vision into reality. The project team worked seamlessly to create an integrated 50,000-square-foot space where brand, wellness, environment, technology and business drivers merge – and strongly reflects the Star Wars theme, as evidenced by the giant Yoda overseeing the sales department and the “Luke” and “Leia” restroom signs.
